General Statement of Job

The individual in this position assists with the administration, planning, and provision of appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conductive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include communicating and interacting with students and staff and assisting in development and modification of instructional plans and materials to meet student needs. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Communicates and interacts with students and staff on a daily basis.
  • Assists in the development, selection, and modification of instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation as required by school policies, district guidelines, or administrative regulations.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Adheres to the guidelines and procedures as outlined in the Henry County Handbook.
  • Participates in staff development and requires certification in non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Helps plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the needs, interests and abilities of the students in accordance with the students IEP.
  • On a regular and consistent basis, meets and instructs students in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of the students in conjunction with the assigned teacher.
  • Organizes materials and supplies prior to instruction to successfully meet the instructional goals of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Attends staff meetings as required per the school administration.
Additional Duties
  • Helps create and maintain a learning environment that is safe, respectful, and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students, staff, and school property, including equipment and materials.
  • Serves as a professional role model by demonstrating respectful, ethical, and responsible behavior at all times.
  • Provides general support for school operations, including supervision during transitions, lunch periods, assemblies, and other school functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal or designee to support the needs of students, teachers, and the overall school environment.
Minimum Education and Training
  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university or completion of 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university or passing score on the Paraprofessional assessment.
  • Skill or experience teaching or instructing others, typically students in a classroom setting, preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience with the tools, strategies and techniques used to engage students in learning and maintaining student behaviors, preferred.
  • An equivalent level of education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in the use of computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other District employees and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
