Salary Range: $18,451 to $42,295

General Responsibilities

Provide assistance to administration or teachers in daily management of the school and instruction of students, perform clerical work, observe and report on behavior and learning, and enforce school procedures. Assist pre kindergarten, kindergarten or special education classrooms with monitoring and support activities.

Essential Tasks
  • Assist in providing individual and small group instruction, as taught by the classroom teacher.
  • Assist with instructional activities; reading to groups, library assistance, etc.
  • Help students with special assignments or academic problems.
  • Assist with daily routine tasks such as cafeteria duty, bus duty, money collection, hall duty.
  • Help maintain order and monitor students to keep them on task.
  • Prepare instructional materials as requested.
  • Encourage safety, work and study habits.
  • Assist in fire drills and other building security procedures.
  • Escort students on field trips and during school activities, assist with restroom needs.
  • Maintain bulletin boards, student records for daily attendance, lunch tickets, health charts and supplies.
  • Work with students requiring close attention.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining student behavior standards.
  • Alert teacher to special needs of individual students.
  • Implement all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Perform related work as required.
Cafe Aide Tasks
  • Assist and monitor student behavior during lunch period.
  • Assist students in opening and closing prepared food packages.
  • Assist in preparation of lunch periods, wipe tables between periods.
  • Perform related work as required.
Librarian Assistant Tasks
  • Assist students with location and use of the media center materials.
  • Circulate media center equipment and materials; operate media center equipment.
  • Assist to shelve returned books, replace incorrectly shelved books, label and mend books.
  • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Perform related work as required.
School Assistant Tasks
  • Perform a variety of office assistant tasks such as photocopying, filing, answering the telephone, taking messages and distributing mail.
  • Maintain confidential files.
  • Order supplies and coordinate printing needs.
  • Maintain records of student absences and unexcused absences.
  • Call parents if a student is absent.
  • Prepare files and records for entering and withdrawing students.
  • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Perform related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

General knowledge of classroom teaching practices, library and school office functions. Ability to maintain confidential information, use standard office, library and computer technology. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective relationships with teachers, parents, students and colleagues.

Education and Experience

High school graduate/GED. Some experience working with children. Comparable training and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.

Physical Requirements

Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing and pulling. Ability to lift 10 pounds.
