The candidate for this position will prepare and deliver Earth Science lessons to students in grades 9‑12. The candidate will be responsible for teaching Earth Science courses aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum requirements. The candidate will deliver engaging instruction through classroom activities, laboratory investigations, scientific inquiry, and hands‑on learning experiences. The candidate will develop weekly lesson plans, assess student performance and progress, meet with administrators and parents as needed, and provide additional support to students who require academic assistance in Earth Science.

Accountability and Report

Works under the supervision of the Principal, who is responsible for carrying out the daily operations of the school. An annual evaluation will be based upon the job description, district and personal goals and objectives specific to the position, and the performance of the teacher.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Adapts Earth Science content and instructional methods to create relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students utilizing a curriculum designated by Brunswick County Public Schools.
  • Administers assessments and testing in accordance with division testing protocols.
  • Communicates with parents, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and academic performance.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials aligned with the division’s instructional philosophy, Virginia Standards of Learning, and course standards.
  • Provides differentiated instruction and small‑group support to meet the individual learning needs of students and student subgroups.
  • Encourages students to think critically, analyze scientific concepts, and apply scientific reasoning skills.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct necessary for a safe, organized, and productive classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Assesses academic progress of students, prepares report cards, and maintains accurate records including attendance reports, assessment data, and other required documentation.
  • Evaluates student progress in meeting Earth Science course standards and learning objectives.
  • Implements laboratory investigations, demonstrations, and hands‑on scientific learning experiences to support student understanding of Earth Science concepts.
  • Identifies student needs and collaborates with professional staff members to address academic, behavioral, health, and social‑emotional concerns.
  • Instructs students in citizenship and essential subject matter as mandated by state law and Brunswick County Public Schools regulations and procedures.
  • Demonstrates inclusive instructional practices and promotes a respectful learning environment for all students.
  • Integrates instructional technology and scientific resources to enhance teaching and student learning.
  • Participates in faculty committees, professional development activities, and school‑sponsored events and activities.
  • Supervises students during assigned extracurricular activities and other designated times throughout the school day.
  • Maintains a safe classroom and laboratory environment, including proper use and storage of scientific equipment and materials.
Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution in Earth Science, Science Education, or a related field.
  • Holds or be eligible for a Virginia Provisional, Collegiate, or Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Earth Science.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful, full‑time teaching experience preferred.
