MATHEMATICS TEACHER – 195 DAY

Position:
Mathematics Teacher – 195 days per year, full time. Effective 2026‑27. Job Status:

Job involves planning, implementing and assessing a mathematics instructional program for pre‑adolescent and adolescent students. The teacher manages classroom behavior, provides instruction, and collaborates with staff and families to support student learning.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assess student achievement continuously and maintain appropriate assessment documentation.
  • Plan and deliver instruction and learning activities using appropriate materials and technology.
  • Manage classroom behavior and assist in maintaining a conducive learning environment.
  • Coordinate instructional activities with other professional staff to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Work in a self‑contained, team or itinerant capacity and may conduct off‑school site visits.
  • Participate in in‑service and professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Partner with parents and communicate student progress.
  • Assign work to and supervise instructional assistants, volunteers.
  • Serve at two or more schools as itinerant, if required.
  • Support school‑wide student activities and social events.
  • Monitor student behavior in non‑instructional areas and intervene as needed.
  • Collaborate with guidance counselors, librarians, and other professionals to carry out school‑wide instructional activities.

Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of the instructional process.
  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment for assigned instructional specialty.
  • Knowledge of pre‑adolescent and adolescent growth and development.
  • Knowledge of Prince William County Curriculum and school division goals.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Skill in using multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on objectives and student needs.
  • Skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills.
  • For foreign language instruction, proficiency in oral and written communications in that language.
  • For choral music, ability to demonstrate singing techniques, proficiency on the piano, and ability to distinguish pitches and tone quality.
  • For instrumental music, proficiency in one or more instruments and ability to model correct playing techniques.
  • For visual art, a personal portfolio demonstrating artistic ability.
  • For career and technical education, journey‑level proficiency in that trade and on‑the‑job or supervisory experience desirable.
Education & Experience

Certification & Licensure
  • State certification required: collegiate professional, postgraduate professional, or appropriate vocational certificate/license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsements needed for teaching assignments; must be eligible for the Virginia State Certification Program.
  • If assigned off‑site tasks or serving as an itinerant, possession of a valid automobile operator’s license to operate a vehicle in Virginia is required.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements

The work is performed indoors in a standard classroom or office setting. The teacher may experience occasional noise, exposure to computer screens, crowded working conditions, and minor heating or cooling problems.
