SUMMARY: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults and citizens.
- Meet and instruct classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor. Daily teaching objectives shall: identify the learning expected of students; keep students engaged in learning tasks; allow the teacher to spend a majority of time in direct teaching activities; provide for assessment of student learning.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior which fosters mutual respect and courtesy.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like, and communicate these objectives to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques, materials, and activities consistent with the interests, needs, and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the school district’s and school philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Observe for possible learning disabilities of students and refer for diagnosis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
- Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with designated persons, evaluate their job performance.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Assess the progress of students and report to students and parents at appropriate times, evaluating students’ work promptly and constructively and certifying whether each student has mastered applicable learning objectives.
- Provide a personal model for effective communications through language usage, grammar, and spelling and personal appearance.
- Submit promptly and accurately all reports required by the principal and Superintendent.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- Perform such other duties as are deemed necessary by the School Board and Superintendent for the efficient and successful operation of the school system.
Manage children in the classroom and instructional assistants if provided. Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws. Includes training, planning, assigning, directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QualificationsEducation and/or Experience
- Baccalaureate Degree.
- Collegiate Professional Teaching Certificate.
- Teaching endorsement required for assignment.
- Average college grade: C or higher.
- Average grade in teaching major: B or higher.
- Alternative qualifications acceptable at Board’s discretion.
