Job DescriptionFull-time, ten month position serving Middle School students as a Reading Specialist. This position is a fully benefited position. Individuals without a current license may be considered, pending acceptable credentials and pursuit of a teaching license.
ESSENTIAL TASKS/JOB FUNCTIONS- Direct Instruction of Students – will provide direct instruction in the areas of Reading and Writing for identified groups and individual students
- Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum
- Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that support school division initiatives
- Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs
- Provide ongoing training and follow-up in the use of assessment tools
- Participate in collaborative instructional planning
- Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs
- Participate in parent meetings, IEP meetings, etc. to provide instruction suggestions
- Work collaboratively with the building administration to review data to develop and assist in building level professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must possess a Master’s Degree and be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement as a Reading Specialist
- Have at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum development
- Have experience and expertise in using technology in education, including the use of Google Drive for Instruction, collaboration, and course work
- Have effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents/families, and administrative staff
- Demonstrate the ability to be dependable and punctual
