Reports to: Principal and Assistant Principal

General Definition of Work: To develop and implement an educational program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each child.

• Guide the learning activities of each student and provide learning situations suitable for each student
• Provide for the safety, health and well‑being of each pupil in any situation in which students are committed to the teacher’s care
• Maintain the classroom and atmosphere that encourages learning
• Evaluate each student and report progress to parents
• Become informed about and comply with the policies and regulations of the school division and of the local school
• Maintain the neatness and proper care of the classroom, equipment and materials
• Keep essential records necessary for the efficient operation of the school
• Keep abreast of recent developments in education and show evidence of continuing professional growth
• Contribute to the success of the school by maintaining interest in and developing knowledge of the total school program
• Participate in the decision‑making process of the school, particularly those decisions related to curriculum content or change
• Maintain a cooperative attitude toward all school personnel
• Serve as a public relations agent for the school and the school system
• Cooperate with approved community groups in matters related to student welfare
• Perform duties necessary for the efficient and successful operation of the school system
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or his/her designee
• Make reports to the Principal regarding student injuries, hazardous or dangerous conditions, suspected child abuse, and other concerns

Compensation will be based on degree and experience as described in the Amherst County Public School Teachers’ Salary Scale Schedule.

Valid certification to meet state requirements with a specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.

Contract Period: 10 months
