EMPLOYMENT NOTICE

Applications and resumes are now being accepted for the 2026-27 school year for the position of COORDINATOR. The Coordinator provides leadership in the operation, planning, and coordination of Shenandoah Valley Governor s School (SVGS).

Shenandoah Valley Governor s School provides a supportive and intellectually challenging environment for local gifted and talented students to nurture and develop their talents, expand their knowledge, improve critical thinking skills, and foster their sense of personal and social responsibility. SVGS facilitates a community of learners that extends and enriches their members  education by providing rich, deep learning experiences to foster skills and habits of mind necessary to live successful lives.

The Shenandoah Valley Governor s School is a regional school serving 235 juniors and seniors from seven public high schools in Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro. Students attend this shared day, intensive and selective program in the sciences or in the arts and humanities. See (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). for more information about the school.

Education / Experience
  • Hold a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement for Administration and Supervision PreK-12
  • Have at least four years of successful, full-time experience as a teacher or administrator at the secondary level. Experience in high school administration and/or gifted education preferred
  • A strong academic background in STEM and/or arts & humanities education preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for performance and behavior.
  • Promotes and models a growth mindset with interest in life‑long learning, individual development, and collaboration among students and staff for SVGS.
  • Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and establishes effective professional rapport when working with students, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Provides visionary leadership for continuous improvement and adapts SVGS programs to create a unique, high‑impact learning environment, relevance in academic and personal growth, and preparation for advanced learning.
  • Maintains confidentiality and protects student and staff information in accordance with school policy.
  • Recruits and interviews instructional personnel and recommend hires to the director.
  • Supervises and evaluates SVGS staff.
  • Works with the director to identify needs for SVGS programming, courses, resources, and budget.
  • Coordinates SVGS programs, curriculum, activities, schedule, work‑based learning, and other specialized learning experiences.
  • Coordinates testing program and assists with data reporting (i.e. AP testing).
  • Develops recruitment materials, strategies, and specialized interventions.
  • Works collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and division personnel to provide support, guidance, and counsel as needed to promote student and staff growth and development.
  • Supervises student conduct, monitors attendance, administers school discipline plan in a fair and consistent manner and provides appropriate interventions.
  • Supervises school building and property to monitor safety and security.
  • Coordinates SVGS Parent Support Advisory Council.
  • Facilitate and nurture partnerships with alumni, community organizations, and higher education.
  • Works with SVCAL leadership team to develop short‑term and long‑term goals for SVGS and SVCAL.
  • Consults with the director on interpretation and implementation of federal, state and local policies and procedures.
  • Collects, records, and maintains all data and provides information as needed to constituents (i.e. state reporting).
  • Responds to requests for information and correspondence regarding programs and services offered.
  • Represents SVGS professionally as a member of appropriate state and regional meetings/conferences and community organizations.
  • All other duties assigned by the director.

This is a fulltime position to begin 2026-27 school year. Salary based on a 260 day, 8 hours day administrative contract scale. Qualified candidates should submit an on-line application () and attach a resume. Position open until filled.
