Job Description

NOVA Workforce is seeking an experienced instructor to deliver classroom and technical training that will prepare students to successfully pass the EPA 608 Universal certification exams. This is a non-credit, 42 instructional hours course for adult learners. Must be available to teach evenings or Saturday classes. Instructor will also be responsible to proctor students’ exams.

Duties and Tasks
  • Provide hands‑on instruction and practical training to prepare students for the EPA 608 Universal exams. Training should focus on exam objectives
  • Prepares, teaches and evaluates assigned instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, student handouts, hands‑on exercises, assessments, and training aids (classroom and lab).
  • Evaluate students to ensure they are meeting learning objectives and are prepared for the certification exams.
  • Assist in class scheduling and program management.
  • Advise program Manager of needed supplies and materials for the class.
  • Maintains a hazard‑free environment and practices safety in lab(s) or classroom.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to use computer for providing class presentation.
Essential Functions

As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications KSA’s
  • Practical application of the principles of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems
  • Proficiency in installation and service of HVACR equipment
  • Demonstrate the skills necessary to teach the fundamental and advanced concepts of installing and servicing HVACR equipment
  • Ability to design, supervise, and evaluate lab assignments to demonstrate student proficiency
  • Excellent organizational skills and classroom management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex subjects in a clear and engaging way
  • Ability to work with groups of varying ages, skills level, and socio‑economic backgrounds
  • Ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as on a team
  • Must be a self‑starter and innovative thinker
Minimum Work Experience
  • Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise
  • Must hold active EPA 608 Universal certification
  • Two (2) years’ experience in the field of HVAC/R
  • One (1) years’ experience teaching
Additional Considerations
  • Associates degree
  • Previous experience in an educational or training setting
  • Journeyman HVAC license
  • Experience teaching adult learners
  • Experience in curriculum design and development
  • Experience teaching “boot camp” style training courses
  • Prior experience teaching in higher education
  • Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
