Job SummaryRegion Five Adult Education seeks a qualified Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor for a GED program. The position involves teaching approximately 5 hours per week, with 2 hours for lesson planning. The instructor will deliver classroom instruction, evaluate student progress toward goals, and provide instruction for adult learners with varying skill levels. The role also requires distance education delivery using technology, email communication, and teaching basic computer skills.
The instructor will report to the Regional Program Manager.
- Prepare and deliver all GED lessons aligned to the College and Career Readiness (CCRS) standards.
- Gather and prepare instructional materials for classroom use.
- Evaluate students' ongoing progress and performance toward goals.
- Analyze learner needs through state‑mandated assessment tools.
- Use appropriate techniques to address individual learning styles.
- Facilitate both individual and group learning based on learner preferences.
- Maintain accurate attendance and progress records.
- Submit client data, attendance hours, and certificates to Region Five Adult Education monthly.
- Plan, organize, and participate in staff development and team conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field and prior experience teaching basic academic skills to adult learners in an open‑entry, multi‑level classroom.

- Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of parents, teachers, and school board.
- Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures and amounts (discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume) and apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
- Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems and handle varied concrete variables in situations with limited standardization, and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Work is typically performed in a classroom or office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking. The employee may occasionally lift or move objects to a light‑to‑medium weight. Full range of hand and finger motions may be utilized for data entry. If the job involves driving, the employee must be able to operate a vehicle and sit for extended periods.
