Principal-Secondary (High School) Position Purpose

To provide leadership for the staff of the school in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program, and to administer the program in accordance with School Board policies and state administrative rules and regulations.

Salary

$82,452 - $124,770 (Commensurate with Experience)

Essential Functions
  • Know and effectively communicate the Division philosophy and mission.
  • Familiar with teaching, learning, and programs at the elementary, middle and secondary levels with special focus on the level of employment.
  • Participate in Division level meetings on leadership, program, and curriculum.
  • Provide an instructional program consistent with the goals and objectives of the school division.
  • Provide for the continuing development and implementation of an effective instructional program through classroom supervision, instructional leadership, and staff development.
  • Work with the Instructional Leadership Team, school staff, parent-teacher organization, parents, and community to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning and appropriate student behavior.
  • Utilize available supervisory personnel as needed to ensure an effective instructional program.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of each member of the school instructional staff and establish individual programs for improvement consistent with the division's staff development program and student assessment program.
  • Participate in division-wide planning for staff development toward a cohesive K‑12 program.
  • Interpret and implement School Board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and well‑being of students.
  • Attend building and division level activities, functions, and events related to the goals and objectives of the school.
  • Oversee the assignment of students to classes, programs, and activities designed to promote maximum learning.
  • Advise the personnel office of staff needs. Participate in the recruitment, employment, assignment, promotion, transfer, non‑renewal, and dismissal of certificated and classified personnel.
  • Work with other school and Division administrators to provide for horizontal and vertical articulation of the instructional program.
  • Foster effective home‑school communication by providing opportunities for parents and teachers to discuss student progress and participates in the life of the school.
  • Encourage community involvement in school activities.
  • Promote good working relationships among staff members.
  • Devise and administer a school budget, utilizing all available funds, which is consistent with division instructional and administrative goals; to supervise the maintenance of accurate bookkeeping and accounting of school funds.
  • Support the leadership skills of staff by encouraging shared decision making and site‑based planning.
  • Exercise leadership in the development, implementation, and interpretation of Division and school policies and regulations.
  • Become involved in professional enrichment to the extent necessary to keep abreast of developments in elementary, middle school and high school level education and in the field of education generally.
  • Supervise the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students including student cumulative records and Category II files.
  • Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their professional development.
  • Take part in and contribute to Division and/or state level curriculum, program, or organizational committees.
  • Conduct meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  • Plan and supervise fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
  • Prepare local, state, and accreditation reports as may be required.
  • Attend school sponsored activities, functions, and events.
  • Report to appropriate central office personnel regarding the needs of the school with respect to personnel, equipment, supplies, and curriculum.
