Work ScheduleFaculty teaching loads during the academic year (August 16 to May 15) are as needed by the institutions and shall include combinations of on- and off-campus, day, evening, distance learning, and weekend classes. Fifteen–twenty (15–20) contact hours per semester are required for all full-time faculty as well as ten (10) student contact hours per week.
The position includes work at Suffolk, Franklin, Smithfield campuses, and online. The role may require work during the day, evening, or weekends, as needed by the institution during the academic year.

D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia with campuses in Franklin, Suffolk, and a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates, as well as workforce and community programming. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, developmental studies, and summer classes are available.
- Teaching:
Create a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in mathematics, encompassing instructional design, delivery, effectiveness, and expertise. - Scholarly and Creative Engagement:
Engage in scholarly or creative activity such as conference attendance, presentation, professional organization participation, academic coursework, research, publications, and grant activity. - Institutional Responsibility:
Perform assigned or presumed duties—participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part-time teaching faculty, attend required department, committee, and college meetings, comply with college and VCCS policies, and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty and staff. - Service:
Contribute quality participation and commitment to students, the college, and community organizations; duties include college representation, college citizenship, and community citizenship.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned, including assistance to the agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Required Qualifications- Minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics.
- Teaching experience.
- Ability to design and implement curricula that align elements of student learning to the student’s educational goals.
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varying academic competencies.
- Knowledge of methods to effectively teach mathematics through distance learning.
- Ability to learn and utilize various technologies for communication, organization of data and course materials, presentations, etc.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
- Knowledge of and experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for group or one-on-one settings.
- Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline.
- Full-time teaching experience.
- Community college or four‑year college teaching experience.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods including online, hybrid, and Hyflex course options, content software, web‑enhancements, etc.
- Knowledge of academic advising.
- Willingness to incorporate AI into mathematics education.
- Experience in incorporating technology into education.
Travel between Franklin, Suffolk, and Smithfield campus locations.
