Coordinates a comprehensive high school student activities program to include athletics and all other student activities, as well as middle school athletics. Provides effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and stress the importance of academic achievement. Assists the high school principal in the operation of the total school program and the middle school principal in the operation of the middle school athletics program.
Responsibilities- Plan, schedule, and oversee intramural and interscholastic athletic events, coordinating schedules with other activities and schools, preparing contracts, an annual master calendar, and attending events.
- Coordinate and advise athletic coaches and other student activity sponsors; conduct meetings to explain policies and discuss problems.
- Assist building administrators in screening coaching applications, interviewing candidates, and preparing recommendations for principals and the Executive Director of Personnel for both high school and middle school.
- Assist in filling student activity vacancies.
- Prepare facilities and arrange for necessary temporary personnel (ticket sellers, gate coverage, police, public address crews, doctors, game officials), transportation, concessions, traffic and crowd control, custodial coverage, cleanup, and repair after events.
- Interpret student eligibility, prepare eligibility lists, and arrange team physical examinations where applicable.
- Maintain activity accounts, process insurance forms, requisition, inventory, and repair equipment and supplies, and prepare budgets.
- Schedule and coordinate student activities and events such as dances, performances, and avoid scheduling conflicts in facility use.
- Arrange special events such as award presentations, rallies, and programs by outside groups, and attend athletic booster club functions.
- Schedule use of rooms and facilities for student and community activities, ensuring adequate supervision and protection of property and equipment.
- Assist the principal with supervision of maintenance operations and custodial staff.
- Develop and implement positive public relations plans for athletics and other student activities within the school, community, and official social media outlets.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies.
- Evaluate athletic coaching staff and observe practice sessions at the middle and high school levels.
- Ensure adherence to all Virginia High School League district and regional rules and regulations.
- Maintain licensure at the state and/or national level, keep professional growth materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
- Model non‑discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Perform related duties assigned by school administration in accordance with policies and practices.
Communicate effectively, lead diverse groups, prioritize workload, work with little supervision. Thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, procedures, and Virginia High School League rules.
Education and ExperiencePostgraduate Professional License with graduate study in supervision, administration, and/or curriculum. Five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience. Previous varsity‑level head coaching experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands and RequirementsTypical duties in classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 25 lbs, occasional lifting over 75 lbs. Occasional travel with students on field trips. Vocal, hearing, and visual acuity required. Contact with staff, coaches, parents, medical professionals, and students (including those with special needs).
EvaluationBuilding administrator evaluates performance based on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
