General Definition of Work:
The Technology and Engineering Education Teacher is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an instructional program that provides students with meaningful, hands‑on learning experiences aligned with state standards and workforce readiness skills. The teacher will foster a safe, engaging, and student‑centered learning environment that supports academic growth, technical skill development, and career exploration.
Essential Functions- Plan, prepare, and deliver effective instructional activities that meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Guide student learning through engaging classroom, laboratory, and project‑based experiences.
- Provide for the safety, health, and well‑being of students in all instructional settings, including labs and hands‑on activities.
- Establish and maintain a classroom environment that promotes learning, respect, responsibility, and student success.
- Evaluate student performance and communicate student progress effectively with parents/guardians and school personnel.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by school division policies and state regulations.
- Maintain classroom equipment, tools, materials, and instructional spaces in a safe, organized, and functional condition.
- Remain informed of current educational practices, instructional technology, industry trends, and curriculum developments in Technology and Engineering Education.
- Demonstrate evidence of ongoing professional growth and participation in professional development activities.
- Contribute positively to the overall school program by participating in school activities, committees, and collaborative initiatives.
- Participate in curriculum development, instructional planning, and school improvement efforts.
Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with students, parents, colleagues, administrators, and community partners. - Serve as a positive representative of Amherst County Public Schools within the community.
- Cooperate with approved community organizations and business/industry partners to support student learning and career development opportunities.
- Report student injuries, hazardous conditions, suspected child abuse, and other concerns to appropriate school personnel in accordance with division policies and state law.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Compensation will be based on degree level and years of experience in accordance with the Amherst County Public Schools Teacher Salary Scale.
License/Endorsements- Hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Technology Education or Technology and Engineering Education; or
- Hold a valid Virginia teaching license in another endorsement area and be willing to obtain the Technology and Engineering Education endorsement by successfully completing the required Praxis assessment.
Contract Period: 11 Months
FLSA Status: Exempt
