General Statement of Job: The individual assists with the administration, planning, and provision of appropriate learning experiences for students, creating an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
ResponsibilitiesCommunicate and interact with students and staff; assist in the development, selection, and modification of instructional plans and materials to meet student needs; work under regular supervision.
Essential Functions- Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings.
- Communicate and interact with students and staff daily.
- Assist in developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials for all students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by policies.
- Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Adhere to guidelines and procedures outlined in the Henry County Handbook.
- Participate in staff development and maintain certification in non-violent crisis intervention.
- Help plan a program of study aligning with student IEPs.
- Meet and instruct students at designated times and locations.
- Provide instructional programs in conjunction with the assigned teacher.
- Organize materials and supplies prior to instruction.
- Guide learning toward curriculum goals as directed by the teacher.
Attend staff meetings as required. - Help create and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment.
- Takes precautions to ensure safety of students, staff, and property.
- Serve as a professional role model, demonstrating respectful, ethical behavior.
- Provide general support during transitions, lunch periods, assemblies, and school functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
- Perform other related work as required.
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university or completion of 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university, or passing score on the Paraprofessional assessment.
- Skill or experience teaching or instructing others, preferably students in a classroom setting.
- Knowledge or experience with tools, strategies, and techniques to engage students and manage behaviors, preferred.
- Equivalent level of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
- Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
- Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting.
- Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with district employees and the general public.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
The work requires moving objects up to 30 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds frequently, while standing, sitting, or walking. Requires effective communication, use of hands for grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and handling. Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
