Job Description

Fluvanna County Public Schools is seeking a Biology Teacher for the 2026-27 school year.

Starting Date: July 28, 2026

Job Title: High School Teacher – Biology

• Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
• Prepare course objectives and outline for the course of study following curriculum guidelines or state and school requirements.
• Assign lessons and correct homework.
• Administer tests to evaluate student progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents.
• Keep attendance records.
• Maintain discipline in the classroom.
• Meet with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
• Perform related duties such as sponsoring activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting courses of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
• Comply with school and school board policies and regulations.
• Demonstrate professional growth.
• Be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
• Use instructional and planning time effectively.
• Assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and facilities.
• Assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students under your care.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the subject being taught.
• Use out‑of‑class assignments, when appropriate, to support instructional objectives.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Valid Virginia teaching license with endorsement in Biology.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university, with certification in the teaching field.
• Good health with no disqualifying physical or emotional handicaps.
• Evidence of fitness to teach may be required.
• Teaching experience with an acceptable rating is preferred.

Language

Skills:

Demonstrates command of Standard English, both spoken and written.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts, apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

The employee must regularly talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move >50 pounds. The employee must be able to push items up to 50 pounds and have vision abilities including distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work both inside and outside, with varying noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruption frequent; flexibility, patience, self‑motivation, and ability to work under stress required. After‑hour work may be required.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on personnel evaluation.
