TEACHER - SPECIAL EDUCATION
Assume responsibility for the instructional program for students with disabilities. Possess a bachelor's or master's degree in education or a related field. Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsement in Special Education. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
Ability to develop and maintain required records and written reports. Ability to use computer software programs and web-based applications. Ability to circulate around classrooms with varied seating and desk organization patterns. Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position. Ability to prepare required written reports. Ability to monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior, including outdoor activity areas, gymnasiums, etc.
Performance responsibilities include teaching socially acceptable behavior in instructional settings, developing lesson plans and instructional materials, collaborating with school staff and parents to develop individualized educational programs (IEP) for students, communicating regularly with parents or guardians to discuss student progress, serving as a contributing member of school multidisciplinary teams, adapting and modifying curricula and instruction as required by individual students' educational plans, conducting assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students, evaluating students' progress, managing allotted learning time to maximize student achievement, collaborating with general education teachers to plan for specially designed instruction for students with disabilities, facilitating data collection process related to progress of IEP and academic goals, serving as a member of Child Study, Eligibility, and IEP Committees.
Reports to:
Building Administrator. Terms of employment: 200 days a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan. Evaluation:
