Job Description

The candidate will prepare and deliver lessons that emphasize differentiated strategies and activities to promote skill development of identified students. The candidate works with a caseload of students to identify and develop individualized goals and accommodations to support delivery of curriculum for students in specific subject areas. The candidate will be responsible for teaching/co‑teaching one to two subjects within that content area depending on documented certifications, delivering lessons to different classes throughout the day, developing weekly lesson plans, assessing student performance and progress, meeting with administrators and parents as needed, and tutoring students requiring extra support.

Works under the supervision of the school principal; evaluation based on job description, district and personal goals, student achievement data, and performance.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in the content area and eligibility for a Virginia provisional, collegiate, or postgraduate professional license in the same area.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of three (3) years of successful, full‑time teaching experience preferred.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Professional Knowledge:
    Effectively address curriculum standards, integrate key content elements, facilitate higher‑level thinking, link learning experiences, demonstrate accurate subject knowledge, apply relevant skills, base instruction on high expectations, understand student development, communicate clearly, and check for understanding.
  • Instructional Planning:
    Use VSL, school curriculum, effective strategies, resources, and data; guide planning with learning data; plan pacing and transitions realistically; plan for differentiation; align objectives to curriculum and learning needs; develop long‑ and short‑range plans and adapt as needed.
  • Instructional Delivery:
    Engage and maintain students in active learning; build upon existing knowledge; differentiate instruction; reinforce learning goals; use varied instructional strategies and resources; use instructional technology; communicate clearly and check for understanding.
  • Assessment:
    Use pre‑assessment data to set expectations; involve students in goal setting; use valid and appropriate assessment methods; align assessments with standards; use formative and summative tools; provide constructive feedback.
  • Learning Environment:
    Arrange the classroom for safe learning; establish clear expectations and enforce fairly; maximize instructional time; establish trust and teamwork; respect student diversity; maximize instructional time through individual, small‑group, or whole‑group work.
  • Professionalism:
    Collaborate and communicate effectively; adhere to laws and ethical guidelines; integrate professional growth; set improvement goals; engage in extracurricular activities for school; work collegially; build positive relationships with parents; contribute to learning community; demonstrate mastery of written and oral English.
  • Student Academic Progress:
    Set measurable goals; document progress; provide evidence; use outcome data to communicate progress; develop interim targets.
  • Special Education Services:
    Serve on interdisciplinary team; act as Child Study Chair; develop short and long‑term IEP goals; collaborate with classroom teachers; maintain records; conduct annual reviews; hold parent conferences or home visits.
