Part-Time School Counselor School Year
Position
Purpose:
Under the general supervision of division administration, the Part-Time School Counselor supports students in their academic, personal/social, and career development. The counselor provides individual and group counseling services, collaborates with staff and families, and helps ensure students have the resources needed to be successful learners and productive members of the community.
Essential Functions:
- Academic Development:
Assists students in achieving academic success and developing skills for lifelong learning. Provides individual and group counseling focused on academic planning and student success. Supports course selection and academic goal setting. Interprets and utilizes student data to support instructional and academic planning. Assists with student scheduling, transitions, and orientation. - Personal/Social Development:
Promotes a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment. Provides counseling services that support students' personal growth and well-being. Collaborates with parents, teachers, and administrators to address student needs. Assists with crisis intervention, prevention, and student support services. Serves as an advocate for students. - Career Development:
Assists students in exploring career interests and postsecondary opportunities. Provides guidance related to college, career pathways, and workforce readiness. Shares information on scholarships, admissions, and career trends. Coordinates career-related activities and opportunities.
Professional Responsibilities:
Maintains accurate and confidential student records in accordance with division procedures and applicable laws. Communicates effectively with students, families, and staff. Participates in professional development and stays current on counseling best practices. Collaborates with school staff and community partners to support student success. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or division administration.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a standard school environment with regular interaction with students, staff, and families.
Qualifications Profile:
- Certification/License:
Must hold or be eligible for a school counselor license issued by the Virginia Department of Education. - Education:
Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field. - Experience:
Prior successful counseling or teaching experience preferred. - Other Requirements:
Valid driver's license or ability to provide reliable transportation.
