Teaching Assistant
The position is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher by performing tasks assigned and directed by the teacher. The teacher's instructions must not infringe upon the responsibilities reserved for the certified teacher. It is vital that both the teacher and the Teaching Assistant fully understand the limitations and purpose of the assistant.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Minimum Qualifications:
- Para Pro Certification.
- Previous experience working with students preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates basic reading, writing, and computation skills.
- Have good physical and emotional health.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Working Conditions and
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in regular classrooms, outdoors, and on the phone;
physical agility to lift to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
Work Environment:
Duties are usually performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be performed occasionally on field trips away from school. The level of stress in the work environment is usually moderate.
