Adjunct Business Statistics Faculty (Part-Time)

Join Southside Virginia Community College in preparing the next generation of business professionals through BUS 224:
Business Statistics. This course introduces methods of probability assessment and statistical inference, with a strong emphasis on business and economic applications. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC's mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community. Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.
Course Content & Specific Duties:
- Teach data presentation, descriptive statistics, and basic probability concepts.
- Cover discrete and continuous probability distributions, the Central Limit Theorem, and estimation and sampling distributions.
- Instruct students on decision theory, simple linear regression, and hypothesis testing for single samples or populations.
- Guide students in utilizing spreadsheet software as a primary tool for statistical problem-solving.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high-quality course materials align with college standards.
- Maintain engagement through the college's Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related Business field from a regionally accredited institution. - Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success
Additional Considerations:
- Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Experience working with community college students.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
