Principal, Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center (ANTC)
The position is responsible for the administration and supervision of a high school technical center and its programs.
Education and Experience:
- Must hold a valid Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
- Must have three to five years successful teaching and/or administrative experience (Career and Technical Education experience preferred).
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Essential Job Functions:
- Advises and informs the Superintendents and Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center Joint Board regarding all matters involving career and technical education programs, including recommendations for adding and/or discontinuing classes offered.
- Provides for the continuing development and implementation of an effective instructional program through classroom supervision and instructional leadership.
- Ensures all CTE requirements are met for all programs.
- Establishes and maintains a handbook and policies approved by the Joint Board.
- Conducts regular staff meetings.
- Handles discipline in collaboration with each student's base school.
- Serves as the instructional leader of the school; uses data to lead school efforts in achieving high academic performance of all students.
- Analyzes and interprets data to determine the instructional focus of the school; ensures programs and strategies are in place for enrichment and remediation services for all students.
- Creates and supports a positive school climate and culture that maximizes the learning potential and professional growth of all students and school employees.
- Provides leadership and directs the work of teachers and support staff.
- Collaborates with the Superintendents, Directors of Instruction, and Directors of Career and Technical Education regarding CTE curriculum development based on current trends, instructional best practices, and the Virginia Department of Education guidelines and mandates.
- Communicates and coordinates the implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines with all school staff.
- Prepares regular reports for presentation to the Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center Joint Board, Superintendents, and central office Directors - as well as to the Boards of Supervisors for each county and potential partners for the technical center, as requested - related to the instructional program and operations of the school.
- Prepares and submits on time verification and other required/requested reports related to the students and/or programs of the ANTC to the Virginia Department of Education
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of each member of the school staff and establishes an individual program for improvement consistent with Joint Board policies and procedures.
- Provides ongoing professional development to staff in relation to the ANTC vision and mission, school goals, and school improvement process (SIP) initiatives.
- Interprets Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center Joint Board policies, procedures, and guidelines to parents and the public.
- Works collaboratively with school staff and community to maintain an atmosphere conducive to student learning and a safe and supportive school environment.
- Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes, policies and guidelines related to public schools and in particular the operation of instructional programs for the academically talented and students with disabilities.
- Coordinates with Human Resources regarding staffing needs; recommends staffing changes; participates in the recruitment, selection, and assignment of the school staff.
- Prepares budget recommendations to the Superintendents and School Finance Directors/Managers and monitors school and activity fund budget status throughout the year.
- Fosters effective school-community relations by working with parents, advisory groups and social service agencies, and by facilitating community use of the school facility as established by Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center Joint Board policies.
- Collaborates with the Superintendents, Division Disciplinary Hearing Officer and central office Directors to analyze data on student conduct and to resolve student and school issues regarding student discipline.
- Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and directs teachers to alter instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Ensures students take certification exams.
- Responsible for planning and follow through on matters related to student registration, scheduling, orientation and the development of the Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center course offerings and master schedule.
- Collaborates with the Superintendents, Directors of Instruction, and other school and division administrators to provide for horizontal and vertical articulation of the school's instructional program.
