Job Description

Fluvanna County Public Schools seek to hire a qualified Special Education Teacher at Carysbrook Elementary School (Grades 3-4) for the  school year.

Job Title: Special Education Teacher - Special Ed. General Curriculum K-12

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education.

Documentation Needed (attach to online application):
Copy of Teaching license, transcripts, resume and college/university eligibility letter if a license hasn’t been issued.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines or the requirements of the state and school.
  • Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to the class.
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results.
  • Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and conducts oral presentations.
  • Differentiates instruction based on varying levels of student ability.
  • Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents.
  • Teaches rules of conduct.
  • Maintains order in classroom and other school settings.
  • Counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.
  • Discusses pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents and families.
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by school.
  • Coordinates class field trips.
  • Works cooperatively with the entire staff.
  • Works independently when required.
  • Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
  • Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintains a neat, safe environment for students committed to their care.
  • Promotes positive interaction among students and staff.
  • Encourages self‑direction and self‑motivation in students.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training.
  • Exhibits evidence of effective lesson plans.
  • Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
  • Complies with school and school board policies and regulations.
Qualifications

Must hold a valid Virginia Teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university.
  • Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors.
  • Experience working in alternative programs and settings.
  • Valid certification to meet State requirements with a specific endorsement in the area in which assigned.
  • Applicant must have good health and no disqualifying physical or emotional handicaps; evidence of fitness to teach may be required from a qualified physician.
