Salary: $50,055 – $72,741 annually; commensurate with experience and pro‑rated to start date.

Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Reading Specialist

Qualifications / Education & Experience
  • Must possess a Master’s Degree and be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement as a Reading Specialist
  • Have at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum development
  • Have experience and expertise in using technology in education, including Google Drive for instruction, collaboration, and coursework
  • Have effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents/families, and administrative staff
  • Demonstrate the ability to be dependable and punctual

Terms of Employment

Teacher’s Work Calendar and benefits as defined in the Teacher’s negotiated agreement; positions funded using CARES/ESSER funds during the term of time they are provided.

Essential Tasks / Job Functions
  • Direct instruction of students in Reading and Writing for identified groups and individual students
  • Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum
  • Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development to support school division initiatives
  • Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs
  • Provide ongoing training and follow‑up in the use of assessment tools
  • Participate in collaborative instructional planning
  • Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs
  • Participate in parent meetings, IEP meetings, etc. to provide instruction suggestions
  • Work collaboratively with building administration to review data to develop and assist in building‑level professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • Master degree preferred.
