Giles County Public Schools, Narrows, Virginia
Starting Date: Aug 1, 2026
Salary: $50,055 – $72,741 annually; commensurate with experience and pro‑rated to start date.
Job DescriptionPOSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Reading Specialist
Qualifications / Education & Experience- Must possess a Master’s Degree and be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement as a Reading Specialist
- Have at least three years of successful classroom teaching experience
- Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum development
- Have experience and expertise in using technology in education, including Google Drive for instruction, collaboration, and coursework
- Have effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents/families, and administrative staff
- Demonstrate the ability to be dependable and punctual
Building Administration
Terms of EmploymentTeacher’s Work Calendar and benefits as defined in the Teacher’s negotiated agreement; positions funded using CARES/ESSER funds during the term of time they are provided.

Essential Tasks / Job Functions- Direct instruction of students in Reading and Writing for identified groups and individual students
- Identify literature for use in all content areas in support of the curriculum
- Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development to support school division initiatives
- Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school literacy data and plan for future literacy needs
- Provide ongoing training and follow‑up in the use of assessment tools
- Participate in collaborative instructional planning
- Assess students using a variety of measures to determine appropriate placement and specific instructional needs
- Participate in parent meetings, IEP meetings, etc. to provide instruction suggestions
- Work collaboratively with building administration to review data to develop and assist in building‑level professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Master degree preferred.
