Introduction to Human Communication. This is a UCGS transfer course that examines the elements affecting human communication in individual, small group, and public contexts. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC's mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.

Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled. Course content and specific duties include examining elements affecting human communication in intrapersonal, interpersonal, small group, and public contexts. Emphasize the practice and development of communication skills across all identified contexts. Facilitate college-level reading and analysis of scholarly studies. Oversee the production of coherent written reports, including at least one APA/MLA-formatted individual writing assignment.

Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high-quality course materials align with college standards. Maintain engagement through the college's Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course. Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.

Special assignments may include performing other duties as assigned and assisting the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/required qualifications include a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Communication, Speech, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams, ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments, ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds, understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.

Additional considerations include teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities. Competency using instructional technologies such as SMARTboards, Zoom, and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). Experience working with community college students. Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
