Adjunct Instructor for Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class-A
Southwest Virginia Community College is in search of a CDL Adjunct Instructor to serve its Workforce and Continuing Education Division. The position will serve main and off-site campuses. Instructional workload will be based on demand in surrounding communities serviced by the College. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to multi-task, and create a student-oriented learning environment. Classes will be offered day and weekends.
Teaching responsibilities and scheduling varies.
Primary duties are to coordinate, administer, manage, and deliver non-credit programs. Responsible for the recruitment, work-based learning opportunities, and job placement of students into workforce and academic program. Manages the program advisory board(s). Defines learning objectives, prepares and teaches classes, creates a student-oriented learning environment, and evaluates student learning in assigned courses. Must be available to teach day, evenings, weekends, and/or on and off-campus classes in person.
Assists in the recruitment, training and support of adjunct instructors within teaching field.
Scheduling Flexibility: CDL Instructors are needed to teach both weekday and weekend classes. Applicants should indicate their availability and preference for weekday, weekend, or either teaching schedules in their letter of application. Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at one of the Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap and off-site locations).
Special Assignments
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications - 5 years non-teaching work experience as a truck driver. Possess a current Class ACDL. Current knowledge of industry issues and practices. Current knowledge of DMV/DOT regulations. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and work independently. Must be able to successfully complete background check.
Additional Considerations
- Associate's Degree. Experience providing technical education in classroom/small group setting. Curriculum development experience.
