To enable each child/student to pursue an education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.

• Reports to the School Office upon arrival at school to sign‑in.
• Reviews with the substitute plans, attendance forms, and schedules to be followed during the teaching day and will contact the office with questions.
• Teaches the lessons outlined in the absent teacher’s lesson plan.
• Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practices dictate.
• Assumes responsibility for pupil behavior in class during lunch and recess periods, and during fire or other disaster drills.
• Lists assignments made and evaluates student’s work.
• Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

• Must possess a high school diploma (or GED), an associate degree, or a bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum age: eighteen (18) years.
• Alternative qualifications may be considered as per School Board or Superintendent discretion.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Substitute may work at any listed schools, including Liberty High, Liberty Middle, Alt Education Center, Susie G. Gibson Science & Technology Center, Bedford Elementary, Bedford Primary, Big Island Elementary, Montvale Elementary, Staunton River High, Staunton River Middle, Goodview Elementary, Stewartsville Elementary, Moneta Elementary, or Huddleston Elementary Schools.
