Job DescriptionSouthwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career‑training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four‑year university.
SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Community College invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the Humanities and Social Sciences Division to teach Fine Art. The College seeks faculty who will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
ResponsibilitiesInstructors will be responsible for teaching Fine Art courses in a virtual format.

- Master of Fine Arts or Arts degree in Fine Art or related discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate level course hours in Fine Art.
- Experience teaching 3-D Design curriculum.
- Experience teaching photography.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success.
- Excellent verbal, listening, problem-solving, critical thinking and writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Competence to teach courses with multicultural perspectives in a community college setting with a focus on student learning.
- Willingness to incorporate the college-wide abilities of Civic Engagement, Critical Thinking, Professional, Readiness, Quantitative Literacy, Scientific Literacy, and Written Communication.
- Experience with the use of online course management systems, i.e. Canvas.
- Ability to impart excitement and enthusiasm into teaching.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including a wide range of student preparedness and characteristics.
