Job SummaryThe position is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher by performing tasks assigned and directed by the teacher, without infringing on teacher responsibilities. The monitor actively participates in preventing behavioral problems and provides support to assigned students, maintaining active communication with the teacher and, when required, following a written behavior plan. The monitor must remain with the student at all times except during scheduled time specified in the individual plan.
EssentialDuties
- Assists students in achieving instructional goals and objectives.
- Assists students with personal care and toileting needs.
- Assists in preparing and maintaining daily student data.
- Assists the classroom teacher in specific tasks that will lead to students achieving instructional goals.
- Escorts the student at all times.
- Reports any student problems or issues to the team.
- Performs related tasks as needed to meet individual student needs.
This is an exempt, part‑time position with no benefits such as sick leave or paid days. Employment is based on student need and funding and can be discontinued at any time. The monitor is not employed during suspensions, planned absences or unexpected absences of the assigned student. Services will be faded in accordance with policy.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma, Transcript, or GED.
- Demonstrate basic reading, writing, and computation skills.
- Have previous experience working with groups of children.
- Have good physical and emotional health.
- Respect and protect the confidentiality of students, staff, families, and so forth.
- Be willing to accept teacher direction.
- Office management skills, such as typing, computer literacy, and filing for Medicaid services rendered.
Physical Requirements
Must sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in classrooms, outdoors, and on telephone;
lift up to 50 pounds; bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
