Job Summary
The keyboarding teacher is responsible for instructing students in proper typing techniques, computer literacy, and foundational technology skills. The teacher will deliver engaging lessons that help students build speed, accuracy, and confidence in keyboarding, while also incorporating basic digital literacy and responsible technology use.
Responsibilities- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate keyboarding and digital literacy lessons for middle school students.
- Teach proper posture, hand placement, and typing technique using approved keyboarding software.
- Monitor and assess student progress in typing speed, accuracy, and technique.
- Integrate real‑world applications of keyboarding and digital communication into instruction.
- Provide instruction in basic computer use, including file management, word processing, and online safety.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and submit grades as required.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Education, Technology, or related field.
- Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with appropriate endorsements.
- Experience teaching keyboarding, technology, or computer applications preferred.
- Proficiency with educational technology and keyboarding software.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to foster a positive learning environment that supports middle school students’ academic and personal growth.
Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone;
physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
