Job Summary

The position is responsible for teaching the assigned subject and ensuring each student can continue their education in the regular teacher's absence.

Essential Duties

• Report to the designated classroom upon arrival at the school.
• Review the lesson plans and schedules to be followed during the school day.
• Maintain the established routines, procedures, and guidelines, including safety drills, of the school and classroom to which assigned.
• Teach the lesson plans outlined by the regular classroom teacher.
• Assume responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class, during lunch, and in other activity periods.
• Maintain maximum supervision of assigned students at all times.
• Report in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
• Follow all policies, rules, and procedures.
• Remain in the building during the hours assigned as a Substitute.
• Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be age 18 or older.
• Possess familiarity with the subject(s) being taught.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
• Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, enter data into a computer; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in regular classrooms, outdoors, and on the phone;

physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Work Environment

Duties are usually performed in a school/classroom environment; may occasionally be performed on field trips away from school; noise level is usually moderate.
