Coach – Marching Band Percussion Instructor – Auburn High School

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is accepting applications for a Marching Band Percussion Instructor at Auburn High School. This part‑time supplemental position is for the 2026‑2027 school year.

The instructor will work with the Director of Bands, instructional staff, and students to ensure a positive experience and successful public performances. Responsibilities include summer instruction, after‑school rehearsals, weekend events, and performance events, while enforcing school policies.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 21 years of age or older.
• Experience working with marching bands and drumlines, including PIT and battery sub‑groups.
• Experience composing and choreographing routines for drumline groups.
• Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
• Good judgment and ability to carry assignments to completion.
• Certified music teacher, current college music education major, or strong applicable background (preferred).
• Prior coaching or participation at high school or college level.
• Current CPR certification.

• Attend summer band rehearsals (dates and times TBD by the Director).
• Attend all rehearsals throughout the season.
• Attend all competitions, home football games, and other public appearances as required.
• Design, choreograph, and teach percussion routines that complement and enhance the marching band show.
• Evaluate members’ abilities and design routines accordingly.
• Collaborate with the Director and staff to develop a musical program with multiple percussion instruments.
• Instruct members in fundamental percussion techniques.
• Manage equipment for rehearsals and performances, including maintenance, repair, and acquisition recommendations.
• Recruit potential percussion members while retaining current members.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Follow all school and band program policies.

Position type: Part‑time
Salary: $1,869.00 – $2,716.08 per season (Supplemental)
