Job Summary and Duties
Ninety percent of the time, performance for the Title I Resource teacher position will be devoted to direct instruction of students identified for supplemental instruction in reading and language arts. This includes assisting with the administration of a variety of standardized and informal assessment measures. The remaining ten percent of the time may be spent assisting the Reading Specialist and building administrators in delivery professional development to teachers and paraprofessionals to ensure that division and school achievement goals are met, and in supporting parent engagement activities designed to foster joint responsibility for academic progress.
These responsibilities may also include assisting with data analysis of student performance that precedes professional development and instruction to meet the needs of low-performing students.
Performance Expectations
Must have a thorough knowledge of middle school English/Reading principles, practices, and procedures. Candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Learning and how curriculum may be organized to deliver differentiated instruction related to such standards for diverse learners.
Must have extensive experience with successful teaching techniques, instructional materials, formative assessment measures, and current trends specific to the areas of reading and language arts grades 6-8.
Must have demonstrated expertise with data analysis and the use of multiple data sources to develop action planning for school improvement, lesson planning, and monitoring the delivery of instruction.
Must have the ability to assist teachers with instructional planning and provide training on targeted instructional strategies for differentiating instruction in reading and language arts.
Must have the ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills,s and/or Abilities Required)
A minimum of five years of satisfactory performance as a teacher at the elementary or middle school level is required, preferably with a Postgraduate Professional License.
5 Years of successful teaching experience in grades 4-8.
Must have or be willing to obtain an endorsement in Reading/English grades 6-8.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone;
physical agility to lift to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
