D. Camp Community College (PDC) is a small 2‑year college in Southeast Virginia offering associate degrees, certificates, and workforce development programs. The role is for an adjunct faculty member teaching foreign language courses in an online setting.
- Teach courses in Spanish, French, American Sign Language, or a related field, creating a learning environment that facilitates student acquisition of knowledge and skills.
- Engage in scholarly and creative activities, including conference attendance, professional organization participation, research, publications, and grant activities.
- Perform institutional responsibilities: participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part‑time teaching faculty, attend required department, committee, and college meetings, adhere to VCCS policies, and maintain collegial relationships with faculty and staff.
- Provide service to students, the college, and the community, including college representation, college citizenship, and community outreach.
- Minimum of a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Spanish, French, American Sign Language, or a related field.
- Ability to design and implement curricula that align student learning with educational goals.
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching strategies for traditional and non‑traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varying academic competencies.
- Knowledge of methods to effectively teach foreign language/ASL online.
- Ability to utilize various technologies for communication, data organization, course materials, and presentations.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
- Experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively in group or one‑on‑one settings.
- Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline.
- Online teaching certification.
- Online teaching experience.
- Experience at a community college or four‑year college.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods, including online, hybrid, and Hyflex course options, content software, and web enhancements.
- Willingness to incorporate AI into foreign language/ASL education.
- Experience incorporating technology into education.
The position is online and may include work during the day, evening, or weekends as needed by the institution during the academic year. Adjunct teaching responsibilities may vary as needed and are limited to 12 workload credits per term (fall and spring) and 8 workload credits in the summer term.
