Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional

To assist in providing effective instruction and creating a positive learning environment to meet student needs. The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist teacher with daily instruction
- Assist in providing a safe learning climate
- Other duties assigned by the teacher and principal
Knowledge of primary school activities and programs and the general organization and functions of the school system, sensitivity to persons with different backgrounds is essential when communicating, ability to lead others and gain the respect of parents and teachers and community members.
Special requirements include a 2 year degree or passed Parapro test. Demonstrated qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents are required. Must possess good moral character.
Physical demands include frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities;
the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Regular contact with staff members, school administrators, students and members of the community is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Terms of employment include a 181 day contract with benefits. 7 hours per day. The principal will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
