Hourly Special Education Paraprofessional
To assist in providing effective instruction and creating a positive learning environment to meet student needs.
Assist teacher with daily instruction
Assist in providing a safe learning climate
Monitors and maintains records of student progress
Communicates information about student progress and needs to classroom teachers and administration
Participates with school staff in joint planning sessions and network meetings
Provides remediation to students who need extra assistance in reading and math
Participates in staff development activities
Assists with supervision of students
Other duties assigned by the teacher and principal
Knowledge of elementary school activities and programs and the general organization and functions of the school system, sensitivity to persons with different backgrounds is essential when communicating, ability to lead others and gain the respect of parents and teachers, and community members.
2-year degree or passed the Parapro test. Demonstrated qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents are required. Must possess good moral character.
Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities;
the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards. Regular contact with staff members, school administrators, students, and community members is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Hourly without benefits 7 hours per day. The Principal will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
