D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a centre in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Centre.

A dual enrolment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes is available at the college as well.

  • Teaching:
    Creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a subject. Teaching encompasses four components:
    Instructional Design, Instructional Delivery, Instructional Effectiveness, and Instructional Expertise.
  • Scholarly and Creative Engagement:
    Engage in scholarly and/or creative activity, which may include conference attendance and presentation, participation in professional organizations, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
  • Institutional Responsibility:
    Performing assigned or presumed duties according to one’s role at the college. These activities support and advance both the mission of the VCCS and the college to enhance the effective functioning of the college. These responsibilities include participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part-time teaching faculty; participate in required department, committee, and college meetings; adhere to college and VCCS policies;

    perform assigned duties; and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty, and staff.
  • Service:
    Quality participation and commitment to students, college and/or community organizations, which is an expectation of one’s activities as a professional educator. Activities in this domain are differentiated college representation, college citizenship, and community citizenship.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in Psychology.
  • Ability to design and implement curricula that aligns elements of student learning to the student’s educational goals.
  • Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varied academic competencies.
  • Knowledge of methods to effectively teach Psychology Online.
  • Ability to learn and utilize various technologies for communication, organization of data and course materials, presentations, etc.
  • Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
