Location: Nokesville

This position is designated as safety-sensitive. As such, a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening are mandatory. The incumbent will also be subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the duration of employment.

Checks and performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on mechanical, electrical and various equipment utilized at the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) or Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). Utilizes a team of treatment plant operators/staff to facilitate repairs on equipment as needed. Performs actual preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment and light corrective maintenance. Will work with other Department of Water Resources Maintenance staff, as well as Asset Management personnel, as needed.

This is a hybrid position spanning operations and maintenance to enhance the Department’s dedication to reliability centered maintenance. This position is focused on critical assets and utilizing asset management concepts. This will be accomplished using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software. This position will coordinate with staff, maintenance staff, and the asset management team to prioritize work to minimize critical asset failure, ensure regulatory compliance, and extend the life of assets (equipment).

Works solo or with others in performing predictive or preventative maintenance, as well as minor repair work, associated with maintaining mechanical/electrical equipment associated with the Water Treatment Plant or Water Reclamation Facility.

Inspects all equipment for any signs of wear and performs repairs including replacing belts, oil seals and bearings, fuses, lights, electric motors, electrical outlets, etc. Adjusts and calibrates all chemical feeders.

Responds to maintenance related issues after hour emergencies.

Completes and records work order information for documentation in the CMMS/Asset Management application.

Notes condition assessments and useful life in the CMMS/Asset Management application.

Reports the status of completed work and backlogged work to the Plant Manager or Assistant Plant Manager.

Coordinates with Maintenance Technicians, laborers and other support employees as necessary.

Responsible for adding new or modifying preventative maintenance requirements for new or existing equipment within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

In coordination with the Shop & Inventory Control Manager, assists with inventories for all parts and equipment to assure adequate supplies are available for use when needed.

Lubricates, maintains and rebuilds pumps, gearboxes and other treatment equipment in order to maintain optimum working conditions.

Maintains a tool inventory and other stored tools.

Operates a backhoe, crane or dump truck as necessary.

Performs duties of plant operator as necessary.

Performs other related duties as required.

Employee is subject to recall to duty in cases of emergency.

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Technical school diploma in related field desired.

Three years’ experience in working with water or wastewater conveyance equipment maintenance.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.

Licenses and

Certifications:

Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Class III Water Operator’s license (when located at WTP) or Class III Wastewater Operator’s license (when located at WRF) required or must obtain within one (1) year.

Level III Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technologist Certificate preferred.

Level II Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technologist Certificate preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety rules for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of pumping hydraulics and dynamics.
  • Knowledge of welding, soldering, and brazing.
  • Knowledge of water or wastewater equipment.
  • Knowledge of purchasing procedures and maintaining inventory for parts.
  • Knowledge of working with electrical systems.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical system malfunctions.
