Target Salary Range*: $75,.
Position OverviewThis position provides drafting and CAD design support for engineering and sustainment activities at NSWC Dahlgren. The Draftsman will develop and maintain technical drawings and models that support fabrication, integration, testing, and lifecycle sustainment of DoD systems. The role works closely with government and contractor engineers to translate design intent, redlines, and legacy documentation into accurate, controlled technical data.
Key Responsibilities- Create, modify, and maintain 2D and 3D technical drawings using CAD tools.
- Develop detailed drawings, layouts, assemblies, and schematics in support of hardware systems.
- Convert legacy drawings and redlines into current digital formats.
- Support configuration control by incorporating drawing changes and revisions.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable drafting standards and program requirements.
- Maintain organized drawing packages and associated technical documentation.
- Coordinate with engineers to clarify design intent and resolve discrepancies.
- Support engineering change activities and documentation updates.
- Assist with preparation of drawing packages for fabrication, installation, or sustainment.
- Associate’s degree, technical certificate, or equivalent professional experience in Drafting, CAD Design, or a related technical field.
- 5-10 years of professional drafting experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D technical drawings.
- Proficiency with Solid Works for 3D modeling and assemblies.
- ASME Y14.5 for GT&Cs
- Experience with developing Level 2 TDP packages at a minimum (Level 3 strongly preferred)
- Experience producing detailed mechanical and/or electrical drawings.
- Experience working from engineering sketches, redlines, and verbal direction.
- Familiarity with drawing revision processes and configuration control.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and program staff.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.
- Experience with Solid Edge.
- Prior experience supporting DoD, Navy, or NSWC programs.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD, NAVSEA, or ANSI drafting standards.
- Experience supporting legacy system sustainment or modernization efforts.
- CompTIA Security+ desired, must obtain within 90 days of starting.
