Eaton’s EPG CPD Circuit Protection Division is currently seeking a Embedded Hardware Engineering Specialist. This position will be located onsite in Moon Township, PA.
We are seeking an innovative problem-solver to develop and design embedded hardware used in low voltage and medium voltage circuit breakers for the Protection, Control and Solutions business. You will have the opportunity to work with the Advanced Technology team to develop and design electronic trip units and their capabilities to support next generation circuit protection technology and products. You will work with a team of dedicated engineers and experience the excitement of bringing new products to life from design concept through to production launch.
The primary function is to lead the design and development of embedded hardware for power electronics based circuit protection products. This includes creating functionality related to hardware drivers, protection, metering, communication, and user interface.
Essential Functions- Technical lead in embedded hardware development for power electronic based circuit breakers
- Develop product technical requirements by working together with marketing and application teams
- Perform embedded design and testing tasks for hardware development
- Work with team to develop control and electrical fault management algorithm and hardware using HIL
- Plan work in detail at individual level as well as a technical lead, creating a robust and trackable plan, coordinated with the larger development team, including requirement definition and issue tracking
- Review own work and others work in formal design and quality reviews
- Tests own work or work of others, meeting quality and reliability goals
- Develops a high level of technical expertise in embedded hardware design
- Performs and contributes to technical research and investigations
- Collaborates with teams from ERL, Electrical Sector Center of Excellence, and external technology resources (National Labs and Universities) for technology and product innovation
- Follow Prelaunch and PROLaunch phase-gate new product development processes
- Generates value added intellectual property
- BS in Engineering field, prefer Electrical, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- Minimum 10 years experience developing embedded hardware/firmware for electronic devices

- Proficient in C
- Experience with C++
- Experience in implementing wired communication protocols
- Experience with wireless communications systems, such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and CAN
- Experience in using defect tracking systems and code repository
- Knowledge of and experience with project tracking tools such as Jira and JAMA
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in developing device drivers and hardware bringup
- Experience with embedded hardware in 8 bit through 32 bit microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex, PIC)
- Experience with Real-time Operating systems
- General knowledge of industrial circuit breaker design, requirements, and applications
- Ability to read schematics
- Enjoys hands on work and has experience with lab equipment and safety
- Experienced in code sharing tools and multi-person development
