The Material Process Engineer will support Energetics and Propellant Development. A wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the propulsion field with a working knowledge of other related disciplines, such as thermal, structural, and ballistics analysis. The role develops solutions to unique or controversial problems that have an important effect on major company programs. Typically, incumbents will have contributed inventions, new designs or techniques that are of significance to the solution of complex technical problems.
EssentialFunctions
- Contributes to the development of new methods or processes which require complete knowledge of chemistry and laboratory techniques.
- Performs testing using established specifications and procedures.
- Compiles and evaluates test results.
- Prepares reports to document findings and recommendations as to processes, materials and projects.
- Reviews and approves related inputs such as tests and experiments conducted by other laboratory personnel.
- Coordinates with personnel in other disciplines to integrate findings and recommendations.
- Evaluates and implements tractable solutions to technical problems involving the utilization of chemistry and chemical analysis techniques.
- Responsible for specifying chemical testing and evaluating data, providing chemical guidance and planning (technical), organizing (cost and schedule), and conducting technical projects covering a broad range of topics under the guidance of a Technical Project Lead (Technical Fellow or equivalent).
- Develops, plans, and promotes projects independently for the implementation of novel technical approaches and cutting‑edge technologies.
- Consolidates results, prepares findings for reports.
- Occasional work of pertinent codes, rules, and regulations related to assignments.
- Applies principles of Good Laboratory Practices and Protocols.
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills- Degree in Chemistry, Material Science or related science and technical experience in a chemistry environment.
- Knowledge of chemical principles, thermodynamics, polymer chemistry, structure/property relationships, kinetics, and data analysis is essential.
- Experience with energetic materials, statistical analysis, programming, and experimental set‑up and data acquisition is a plus.
- Explosives theory, compositions, and modeling is desired.
