Overview
Senior Construction Inspector with background and experience in water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment plants, pump stations, pressure and gravity pipelines, and process mechanical systems equipment and instrumentation installations, startup and commissioning. The position is based in Fairfax, Virginia with projects primarily in the mid-Atlantic region (Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., etc.). The Senior Construction Inspector will be responsible for project-specific inspection and constructability reviews during the design process.
The candidate should have at least five (5) years of experience with emphasis on water and wastewater facilities and demonstrate a knowledgeable background with relevant certifications, skills, and the ability to provide resident project representation and/or construction inspection. An Engineering degree is required, with a preference for Mechanical Engineering. Salary shall be based on applicable experience and education.
- Monitor Contractor’s operations to ensure compliance with plans, contract terms and specifications.
- Inspect structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and site improvements work; coordinate schedules with the Prime Contractor and other agencies; review and monitor Contractor’s plan of operation; review and provide technical guidance to Engineer on Contractor’s submittals and schedules; advise Contractors of violations and recommend adjustments to operations.
- Advise Contractors of safety-violation issues and recommend adjustments to bring these into compliance.
- Participate in process system Mechanical and Instrumentation equipment start-up and commissioning activities, including certifying proper installation, I/O point-to-point check-out, operational readiness testing, functional testing and reliability testing.
- Take field measurements of pay items and oversee materials testing; check equipment; maintain and review comprehensive historical project records including Inspector Daily Reports (IDR), activity photos, red line as-built plans, progress schedules, work orders, change management, and monthly estimates.
- Use industry-standard project management software for project tracking, documentation transmittal and storage.
- Engineering degree is preferred, with a preference for Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience with emphasis on water and wastewater facilities.
- Relevant certifications for water- and wastewater-related construction management and inspection.
- Ability to read and interpret water and wastewater infrastructure construction drawings and contract specifications; apply engineering principles to determine field adjustments; maintain detailed records; supervise materials testing; and communicate effectively with owner and contractor personnel.
- Experience with project management software such as Procore, E-Builder, Unifier, E-Docs, and Microsoft tools.
- General understanding of P&.
- Knowledge of current state and federal environmental laws and policies related to design and construction.
- Working skills in operating computer equipment and field inspection equipment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
