The Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team partners with the Automation Engineering function to maintain all robotics and material handling equipment (MHE) to ensure seamless operations and customer satisfaction.
As an Automation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in maximizing equipment reliability and operational performance in our fulfillment centers by providing proactive controls automation and technical support. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting complex control systems, analyzing performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize MHE systems, implement innovative projects, and work with state‑of‑the‑art technology such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, print & apply systems, and SCADA devices and programs.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the site expert for maintaining the automation systems critical for operations.
- Maintain and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, Control Net, Device Net, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, and frequency drives.
- Monitor MHE metrics, partner with maintenance/operations to address system performance issues, and provide data‑driven analysis across all operations.
- Provide first‑level escalation support for site technicians, both locally and remotely.
- Perform and analyze building System Assessments to enhance material handling system performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent; and 2+ years of experience in robotics work cells, PLC programming, or related control systems.
- Experience in troubleshooting material handling control systems, including PLC and industrial networks.
- Demonstrated ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Strong foundation in electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment.
- 4+ years of experience with Ladder Logic and structured programming for Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, or Codesys PLCs.
- Experience with material handling flow and capacity optimization.
- Experience with industrial control systems, both hardware and software.
