ARES supports NASA Wallops Flight Facility through the Wallops Range Contract, delivering mission‑critical telemetry, radar, communications, and launch support services.
Position OverviewARES is seeking a Junior Telemetry Technician to support Fixed Telemetry (TM) operations and maintenance activities supporting launch and mission operations at Wallops Flight Facility.
Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain telemetry ground station equipment and RF/SAT communications systems.
- Support operation and maintenance of telemetry systems including antennas, receivers, demodulators, bit synchronize rs, recording devices, and ancillary interfaces.
- Perform troubleshooting and fault isolation activities on telemetry systems and associated equipment.
- Interpret technical schematics and system drawings.
- Utilize electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital voltmeters, power meters, and signal generators.
- Maintain operational logs and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Support mission operations under supervision of senior technical personnel.
- Ensure compliance with company and NASA procedures and policies.
- Support physical installation and maintenance activities around antenna systems and telemetry equipment.
- Associate degree or two years of technical education in Electronics or related technical field, or equivalent military technical training.
- Experience with telemetry ground station equipment or RF/SAT communications systems.
- Experience with mobile systems preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot telemetry and electronic systems.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics and drawings.
- Familiarity with electronic test equipment and instrumentation.
- Ability to travel approximately 25% of the year, typically supporting two or more mission trips annually.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds or more and work around antenna systems.
Safety and quality awareness and compliance are required. Shift work may be required. Assignments may change or vary based on mission requirements.
