At Volvo Trucks North America, New River Valley Operations, you will contribute to the transformation of our company and the transport industry. Your role involves designing, implementing, and improving tooling and equipment across the factory.
Responsibilities- Support the tooling and equipment team in developing new tooling designs and systems.
- Optimize tooling and equipment processes and ensure safe, reliable implementation throughout the factory.
- Work collaboratively with the team to identify and close gaps in tooling and equipment activities.
- Design and initiate 3D printing of fixtures and components.
- Design and develop tooling and fixtures to support production processes.
- Perform drawing and documentation updates as required to support tooling and equipment projects.
- Support installation and training for the use of new tooling and equipment.
- Optimize documentation processes and generate Power BI dashboards to clearly show tooling progress.
- Support documentation, cataloguing, and asset tracking of new tooling and equipment.
- Assist in root cause analysis of process, tooling, and equipment failures.
- Participate in equipment installation, modification, and improvement projects.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including production, quality, and safety—to ensure equipment reliability and compliance.
- Assist with spare parts management, equipment calibration, and inventory control.
- Observe and follow all plant safety and environmental regulations.
- Perform any additional tasks as required by the manager.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field from an accredited school, with at least 30 semester hours completed.
- Must be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student at the start of the internship.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States; no current or future visa sponsorship required.
- Fall interns may work up to 30 hours per week and must be enrolled as a student.
- Ability and willingness to rapidly learn new systems and tasks.
- Critical and analytical thinking skills.
- Familiarity with problem‑solving analysis.
- Spatial recognition ability.
- Proficiency in Office 365 and Power BI.
- Proficiency in 2D CAD, including AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, including Creo, Solid Works, and Catia.
- Experience with 3D printing.
- Knowledge of GD&T.
- Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $17.00 to $46.00, adjusted for location and academic classification.
