Electrical Design Engineer

This role designs and implements electrical controls and power systems for industrial refrigeration projects, with a strong focus on large-scale, turnkey systems. The Electrical Design Engineer supports cross-functional project execution, ensures compliance with industry standards and internal procedures, and contributes to the design of safe, efficient, and reliable industrial refrigeration solutions. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design electrical controls and power systems for industrial refrigeration projects, including large-scale and heavy industrial applications.
  • Produce preliminary and final design drawings and documentation using CAD software, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Perform required electrical design calculations to support system sizing, protection, and performance, following applicable codes and standards.
  • Design lighting systems for industrial warehousing and related facilities, integrating them into overall electrical system layouts.
  • Generate detailed controls bills of materials (BOM) and take-offs to support project planning, procurement, and construction.
  • Assist with purchasing of related electrical materials and components, coordinating closely with the purchasing team to ensure timely and accurate orders.
  • Ensure all electrical designs adhere to internal procedures, applicable regulations, and client standards, maintaining a strong focus on safety and reliability.
  • Submit complete design documentation packages to management and construction teams, supporting clear communication and efficient project execution.
  • Provide technical support during installation to ensure systems are installed in accordance with design specifications and engineering intent.
  • Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM) and enter data into the ERP system to support project tracking, cost control, and inventory management.
  • Consult with fabrication teams to address design questions, resolve issues, and provide physical assistance when necessary to support successful fabrication and assembly.
  • Coordinate with vendors to clarify part specifications, fabrication requirements, and technical details, ensuring that supplied components meet design and quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with project engineering and mechanical engineering teams on heat transfer products, HVAC, and refrigeration-related designs, including change orders and design updates.
  • Support project coordination efforts by communicating effectively with cross-functional teams and contributing to schedule and scope management.
  • Demonstrate and develop engineering leadership capabilities by taking ownership of design deliverables, mentoring peers when appropriate, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager to support overall project and departmental goals.

Essential

Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in electrical system design, including at least 2–3 years in electrical design for industrial or related projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or other CAD software (such as Solid Works) for creating electrical drawings and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including power distribution, controls, and industrial systems.
  • Experience with electrical design for industrial applications such as large-scale refrigeration, HVAC, commercial refrigeration, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
  • Ability to perform and document electrical design calculations to support safe and efficient system operation.
  • Experience with project engineering and project coordination in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering concepts related to heat transfer products, HVAC, and industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to generate and manage Bills of Materials (BOM) and enter data into ERP systems.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with fabrication teams, purchasing, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (seated or standing) for extended periods while performing design and documentation work.
  • Willingness to participate in pre-employment and regular drug testing as part of a safety-sensitive position.
  • Demonstrated interest or capability in engineering leadership, including taking initiative, owning deliverables, and supporting team success.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Experience designing electrical systems for ammonia and CO2-based industrial refrigeration systems.
  • Deep understanding of safety and environmental regulations related to industrial refrigeration and associated electrical systems.
