Salary Range: Starting at $70,000 - Commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications
Additional Compensation: Semi-annual profit-sharing bonus (performance-based, 10% to 20% of salary)
About the RoleSeeking a dedicated Physical Substation Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team shaping the future of the electric power grid in Covington, LA.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver accurate engineering designs of high-voltage electrical substation systems and physical components adhering to utility, industry (IEEE), and client standards.
- Design substation physical layouts, including general arrangements, electrical elevations, conduit plans, equipment layouts, and grounding grids.
- Conduct electrical engineering calculations and analysis using specialized power system tools (e.g., ETAP, WinIGS, IEEE 80/998 standards).
- Prepare preliminary and construction-ready drawing packages, technical specifications, project proposals, bid documents, and material estimates.
- Perform quality control and technical peer reviews of electrical engineering work completed by internal engineers and subcontractors.
- Serve as the Lead Engineer and Engineer of Record (EOR) on designated substation projects.
- Support project execution during construction phases, resolving on-site technical inquiries and evaluating constructability considerations.
- Travel to client project sites and field installations as necessary.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited college or university.
Licensure & Certification: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certified.
Engineering Tools & Standards: Hands-on experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and relevant industry codes (IEEE 80 / IEEE 998).
Technical Breadth: Demonstrated knowledge of physical substation design principles, grounding grid design, and high-voltage equipment layouts.
Desired QualificationsEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modeling using Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Bentley Micro Station, or Bentley Substation software.
Proven leadership and mentorship skills guiding early-career engineers.
