Overview

Role

The Deputy Treasurer works as part of a three-member team in the Treasurer’s Office. To be successful in this position, the candidate must enjoy direct interaction with the public on a regular basis, thrive in an environment that requires quick thinking and multi-tasking, possess strong analytical and math skills, and have a deep level of attention to detail (we still care about the penny!).

This role’s primary responsibility revolves around monthly utility billing and daily deposit reconciliation, but working in a small office means that there are a myriad of less frequent or seasonal tasks to work on. The Deputy Treasurer must be willing and able to learn a variety of revenue-related skills.

Compensation

The Deputy Treasurer is a full-time position with a preferred hiring range of $47,840 to $66,040 ($23.00 - $31.75 hourly); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate’s qualifications/experience. The Town offers excellent benefits including health and dental insurance, VRS retirement, and vacation and sick leave.

Hours

The regular hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm.

Responsibilities
  • Collect revenues from off-site facilities
  • Prepare a daily deposit based on the previous day’s collected revenues
  • Assist citizens via phone or in-person to complete business with the Treasurer’s Office
  • Manage monthly cycle of utility billing including
    • Printing and mailing bills
    • Receiving and posting payments
    • Starting and ending accounts
    • Coordinating meter reading
  • Process other forms of revenues as they are received including
    • Personal property tax
    • Business licenses
    • Meals tax
    • Facility revenues
    • Water deposits
Qualifications
  • Experience with basic computer software (familiarity with databases a plus)
  • Ability to calculate numbers using an adding machine
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of attention to detail while being able to multi-task
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
