Financial Aid and Scholarship Specialist

Southwest Virginia Community College, as a comprehensive institution of higher education, dedicates its services to area citizens. Come join the Financial Aid team at Southwest Virginia Community College! This position works under the supervision of the Financial Aid Coordinator to provide administration of scholarship funding at Southwest, including those provided by the SWCC Educational Foundation. This position will also serve as a source of student support to help eliminate financial barriers for students by researching all available funding sources.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reconciliation of Foundation and Passthrough Scholarship Awards with Student Information System
  • Ensuring that scholarships are administered to eligible students with a specific focus on equity
  • Assisting with enrollment management by researching available funding sources and matching eligible students in need prior to being dropped for non-payment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

This position requires a 12-month probationary period for both new hires and transfers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office, and financial aid/cashiering modules of People Soft
  • Working knowledge of financial aid processes
  • Ability to interpret and follow oral and written rules and regulations
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions in alignment with the applicable financial regulations, as well as with college and department missions
  • Excellent customer service skills and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work efficiently with diverse groups of individuals
  • Ability to work as a team or independently.
