Position: 42A Human Resources Specialist
Location: Gate City

Job Overview

When a Soldier has a question about benefits, policy, or needs help with a sensitive issue, the Army National Guard’s Human Resources Specialist is the primary go-to person. As an HR Specialist, you help Soldiers develop their Guard careers and provide personnel support and assistance to all divisions within the Guard.

Responsibilities
  • Organize, maintain, and review personnel records; perform data entry and retrieval
  • Process recommendations; arrange awards ceremonies
  • Prepare, update, and coordinate requests for evaluations
  • Prepare and monitor Soldier requests for  and tags, leaves of absence, and passes
  • Order and maintain office supplies; maintain filing systems
  • Assist on all human resource support matters
  • Oversight of all strength management and strength distribution actions
  • Responsible for the readiness, health, and welfare of all Soldiers
  • Provide postal and personnel accountability support
  • Maintain emergency notification data

Training and Development

In the Army National Guard, you will learn valuable job skills while earning a regular paycheck and qualifying for tuition assistance. Training includes 10 weeks of Basic Training and 9 weeks of Advanced Individual Training and on‑the‑job instruction, covering basic Soldiering skills, typing, Army correspondence, personnel records management, and computer update and retrieval procedures.

Requirements
  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • At least junior in high school or high school diploma/GED
  • Age between 17 and 35
  • Pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
